FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your Questions, Answered
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?
Come dressed in comfortable, loose clothing and be prepared to relax. We often open our sessions with an intention, where we'll guide you through how to set a goal for your session. You'll lay down, close your eyes, and listen to the sound of singing bowls, gongs (if appropriate, drums, or rain stick. The sound will help your monkey mind to relax, so you can remain as present as possible. Sound and crystals may be used throughout your session during the hands-on healing. We'll focus on each unique chakra point to remove old blockages and create space for energetic healing to occur.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK?
In the Western part of the World, we call it “energy”, in Chinese-Japanese tradition it is called “Ki” (Chi in Chinese), and “prana” in Hindu/yogic traditions. It is the same, universal life force that resonates in each of us and flows through our physical bodies. This is the same universal life force found in plants and animals. When the energy flows, there is no “dis-ease” within the physical body. When the energy is blocked and there is either not enough or too much flow, a physical disorder may result. Reiki is the movement of subtle, intelligent life force energy through the body’.
IS REIKI SAFE?
Yes. Reiki is a hands-on healing modality where a practitioner works with the client’s energy to clear, release, and remove blockages in the energetic field. The energy is intelligent and ancient and flows within all of us, so a practitioner is not tapping into anything that isn’t already within your field - it’s merely an activation of flow. Clients report feeling warm or cold in certain problem areas, which is a sign that the energy is moving there. Clients don't have to do any work, other than have an open mind, try to relax and stop the mind hamster wheels from spinning, and enjoy the moment. Clients who are empathic often report seeing colors when their eyes are closed, feeling "many hands" on them (often their angels/guides), and having a more spiritual experience.
WHAT'S THE SCIENCE BEHIND REIKI?
Dr. Hiroshi Motyoyama was a committed scientist who studied the energy flow measurements through the invention of a device called the “AMI Feedback Machine” (developed since 1970) and is still used around the world today. Dr. Motoyama led numerous studies, all of which led to the twenty books he wrote during his lifetime. The AMI device detects changes in the energy field and is able to measure how the organs and energy meridians are functioning. “During one test, Motoyama found that increased activity of the heart chakra area actually produced a weak but measurable physical light. Subjects were asked to press a button whenever they thought they were experiencing psi-energy, or psychic sensations such as inexplicable feelings, pictures, or sounds. These internal feelings correlated to objectively measured periods of heart activity. Experiments similar to this one led Motoyama to oconclude that mental concentration on a chakra is the key to activating it.”

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO CLEAR ENERGY?
Energy clearing is intended to remove blockages that have been holding someone back physically, spiritually, and emotionally. This means, that these blockages need to come up for healing. While it’s common for clients to have an energetic release during their session, it may happen afterwards. For example, if the heart chakra has been holding onto old energy from a broken relationship or familial trauma, reiki can move the energy through the chakra field to clear, cleanse and release. For some clients, this means crying to release the energy, whereas others feel an activation in energy and want to clean their house afterwards - everyone’s healing journey is different and it’s important to honor yours. Whatever comes up is meant to come up for releasing, so you can step into the next best version of yourself.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN REIKI HELP WITH?
Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, stress, ADD/ADHD, autism, emotional problems, panic attacks, impaired immune system, headaches, migraines, back pain, joint pain, hormones, fatigue, low energy, feeling "stuck", money blocks, attachment to old energy, and much more!
Reiki isn't meant to be a stand-alone therapy, so talk to your doctor if you have certain conditions that you need to treat. Reiki is best when used in combination with other treatments such as individual or group therapy, support groups, naturopathic medical support, Chinese medicine, IV therapy, and more.
